New Indian Standard No. IS 17876:2022 for Stainless Steel Welded Steel Pipes and Tubes with date of establishment of Standard April 19, 2022 This standard covers the requirements for welded stainless steel tubes for general use in the range of outside diameters from 3 mm to 2000 mm. Types of stainless steel to which this standard applies: austenitic, ferritic, martensitic and duplex. Standard production requirements: the pipe shall be manufactured by an automated welding process without the addition of filler metals during the welding process.
Austenitic stainless steel tubes may also be supplied in deep cold worked (HCW) condition by cold working to reduce the wall and weld thickness by at least 35% prior to final annealing. Austenitic stainless steel welded and deep cold-worked (HCW) tubes with outside diameters greater than 355.6 mm may have a longitudinal weld and be produced by forming and welding two longitudinal sections of flat billet, subject to approval by the customer.
Tubes in this standard are to be supplied in heat treated condition. Relevant tests covered by the standard: chemical composition, physical properties – tensile, hardness test, crimping test, flattening test, hydraulic test, corrosion resistance test, etc.
Note: This standard does not specify the requirements for welded stainless steel tubes for special applications, if required, please refer to other Indian standards which are separate for special purpose tubes.
