A head is an element, also known as an end cap, used to close the end of a vessel to isolate the internal and external media. The head of cylindrical vessel is generally a very different shell. According to the shape of surface of head, it can be divided into convex, conical, flat plate and combined shape. Convex head refers to the head whose outer surface shape is convex, such as hemispherical, elliptical, disk-shaped and unfolded spherical head. Some gas cylinders adopt the combination shaped bottom head with convex surface inward, which can ensure the strength and meet the demand of safe use.
A head is a component of a vessel that is welded to a cylinder. (As shown below) According to different geometrical shapes, it can be divided into several kinds such as spherical, oval, disk, crown, cone shell and flat cover, etc., among which spherical, oval, disk and crown heads are also collectively known as convex heads. In welding, it is divided into butt-welding head and socket-welding head. They are used for various container equipments, such as storage tanks, heat exchangers, towers, reactors, boilers and separation equipments. The materials are carbon steel (A3, 20#, Q235, Q345B, 16Mn, etc.), stainless steel (304, 321, 304L, 316, 316L, etc.), alloy steel (15Mo3 15CrMoV 35CrMoV 45CrMo ), aluminum, titanium, copper, nickel and nickel alloys.
